THE CRY OF THE STARS: disability rights are human rights

The butterfly can never fly as long as the storm is at its peak.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Treasures from above and not children of a lesser god.

We are dragon slayers fighting against all odds.

We climb mountains and soar through the sky.

The beauty that shines through darkness because we are stronger within and second to none.

How can it be that, we are regarded as minority yet powerful, industrious, full of unimaginable talents and skills and are neglected just because of ignorance, prejudice and discrimination in our society. Many disabled persons are stigmatized, isolated, beaten, raped, kidnapped and even killed yet society is silent.

"Though the ostrich does not fly, the eagle cannot pride itself of being more of a bird than the ostrich". Individuals WITHOUT disability cannot be more human than the disabled.

The rights of the disabled are human rights and should be upheld by all.

Can we continue to infringe and neglect the basic human rights of 15% of the world’s population living with a disability and think that society can improve without them? Truth be told, all those that infringe on the fundamental human rights of the disabled are insensitive and lack morality.

Persons with disability equally have the rights to quality education, proper health care, employment, and to social, economical and cultural development. Emancipation for the disabled means emancipation for the groaning universe. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.

I would like to ask my reader :

1) What have you done as an individual to support and uphold the rights of persons with disability in your community, country and world?

2) Do you know what it is to live with a disability or to have a relative living with disability?

3) Do you know you are prone to disabilities yourself?

THE RIGHTS OF THE DISABLED ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. LET'S ALL HELP IN THE CRUSADE BECAUSE WE ARE ONE.
