Campaign to Support Those Living with Albinism

Prevention is always better than cure when it comes to cancer. One of the most devastating forms of cancer for people living with albinism is skin cancer, also known as melanoma. Individuals with albinism are at a greater risk of skin cancer because they lack melanin, the pigment that provides color to our skin, hair, and eyes. Cancer is classified as a disability, and raising awareness about skin cancer in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) can save lives.

Our Commitment to Helping Those with Albinism
Hope & Salvation is dedicated to 'doing little things with great love,' particularly for those living with albinism. We recognize the unique challenges faced by individuals with albinism and are committed to supporting them in various ways to prevent skin cancer.

What Are We Doing?

  • Providing Sunglasses: We distribute sunglasses with UV protection to shield their eyes from harmful UV rays.

  • Supplying Protective Clothing: We offer clothing with a tight fabric weave and long sleeves, as well as wide-brimmed hats to cover the face and neck.

  • Offering Sunscreen: We provide sunscreen that blocks UVA/UVB light to protect their skin from the sun's harmful effects.

Additionally, we collaborate to provide essential items like soap, sanitizers, Veronica buckets, washing bowls, toilet paper, and other sanitary supplies to marginalized families in Ghana and Zimbabwe. These efforts are part of our broader mission to support individuals with albinism and their families, empowering them to lead healthier, safer lives.

Advocacy and Awareness
The launch of the WHO Foundation in May 2020 set global goals to promote health, ensure safety, and serve the vulnerable. However, it also reminds us of the need to advocate for vulnerable populations like children with albinism, who are often unheard.

Hope & Salvation stands to advocate for the needs and rights of individuals with albinism, particularly in securing necessary disability funding. We work alongside other nonprofits to empower, train, and support families to become self-sustaining, generate their own income, and reduce reliance on handouts. Our initiatives include ensuring children receive education by paying their school fees and sourcing assistive devices for those with complex needs.
